adoration
...Thoreau's Journal: 12-Aug-1854

On Conantum saw a cow looking steadily up into the sky for a minute. It gave to her face an unusual almost human or wood-god, faun-like expression, and reminded me of some frontispiece to Virgil’s Bucolics. She was gazing upwards about 45°. There were only some downy clouds in that direction. It was so unusual a sight that any one would notice it. It suggested adoration.

in my world this is almost sacrilegious to destroy a mans teachings and life work by profiteering!,if i were Thoreau a tear would fall from my eye!,he wrote of a scene that was godlike in appearance to him here an earth!,and it has been cheapened by the want for money!,the people that come to this site will be so full of disgust that your wares will not be sold here! nor will i write here if it continues!. michael jameson oldantiqueguy@hotmail.com

don't have a cow, michael. :-) in *my* world, the only thing sacriligious is thinking anything is sacriligious. but i always remove or disallow these spam commenters. so write on!

mr rivers i did make an apology the next day,,you may remove the article and yet it was there to witness?,henry himself uses the word sacrilegious! and you yourself have just used it in context!?!?!?!?! :-)so, may all take a stance and be very careful of our choice of words?. michael jameson oldantiqueguy@hotmail.com

hi michael, i did see that apology and thanks. but no apology is needed. everyone has their own take on things.

as for the article being there to witness, well, that's the risk i take to a certain extent. i allow all comments to post automatically on the same day of the post. all others (like your 8/14 comment to this 8/12 post) need to be approved in order to post. but i do get an email for automatic comments, and if i find the post to be spam, i will remove it as soon as i have the chance)

as for sacriligious, i was using it in the context of a paradox. of course the concept exists, but in the context of the absolute, it doesn't: if everything is god, how can god go against itself?

as for taking a stance, i'd rather sit. ;-) and for choosing words carefully, always, and with the ultimate understanding that no word is always the best word. _/|\_

ah ! the philosophical response! now im on home ground ! then if we are all children of god what makes jesus so special:-]! and why sit when you can lay down?, the word always is a word and the best word is the chosen word one chooses to use as seen fit! .... and i thank you for your blog of thoreau and why! mike
