persistent dreaming awake
...Thoreau's Journal: 27-Aug-1859

All our life, i.e. the living part of it, is a persistent dreaming awake. The boy does not camp in his father’s yard. That would not be adventurous enough, there are too many sights and sounds to disturb the illusion; so he marches off twenty or thirty miles and there pitches his tent, where stranger inhabitants are tamely sleeping in their beds just like his father at home, and camps in their yard, perchance. But then he dreams uninterruptedly that he is anywhere but where he is.

young boys and even some men are never happy where they are or there situations, and when they get to another place they are still not happy! still dreaming of another place or way of life, never truly satisfied or content, but it is the dreams that keeps us happy and going, few find true happiness, but like their father will find a contentment they can settle with and live with their dreams and one day their memories. michael jameson oldantiqueguy@hotmail.com

COURTNEY from the people that write to me after i make an observation, it is truly amazing at how different thoreau's writings mean to different people ! some agree with my observations and some get almost the complete opposite of mine?,,not only the beauty of thoreau's teachings but the beauty in each one of us!. michael jameson oldantiqueguy@hotmail.com

it is hard to fully acknowledge and observe the reality of our illusion when we are caught up in the distractions of "daily life". That reality is the illusion made possible by our being, one must embark as the scientist, the philosopher, or poet to strip away the details to reach that midday dream state known as consciousness and find what is part of it and what is not.
