Thoreau's Journal: 02-Nov-1857

How contagious are boys’ games! A short time ago they were spinning tops, as I saw and heard, all the country over. Now every boy has a stick curved at the end, a hawkie (?), in his hand, whether in yards, or in distant lanes I meet them.

Greg,
I've had a set of the journals in the Dover 2-volume edition for many years; they're one of the most prized items in my library. Still, it's great to have this medium, so as to make a wider audience aware of the journals. The blog is well done. I would particularly note the attractive layout and design. It's a commendable effort -- please keep up the good work! Jerry
